2023 Jackpot of Gems RGMS Member Volunteer Opportunities

The Reno Gem and Mineral Society is presenting their annual Jackpot of Gems Show on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17 at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center.

We still have some opportunities for you to volunteer and get into the show for FREE!

As a member of RGMS, you can make this year's event a success. Listed below are the volunteer spots available.

You can sign up for multiple spots and times.

After you have volunteered for a spot, we will contact you to confirm your information.

Saturday, September 16

  • 9:30am - 12:30pm
  • 12:00pm - 3:00pm
  • 2:30pm - 5:30pm

 

Sunday, September 17

  • 9:30am - 12:30pm
  • 12:00pm - 3:00pm
  • 2:30pm - 4:00pm

VOLUNTEER SPOTS (GENERAL)

Admissions

Janet Longueira/JoAnn Sworthout/Robyn Howard (Chairpersons)

Qualities Desired: Money aware, friendly, alert, quick minded

  • Admit patrons into show, selling appropriate number of admission tickets
  • If taking cash, ensure correct amount is collected and given back as change
  • If credit card, enter amount on tablet correctly & ensure credit card is good

Fluorescent Display

Steve Norman (Chairperson)

Qualities Desired: Alert, patient, knowledge on the use of the display

  • Monitor number of patrons inside fluorescent tent
  • Admit patrons into fluorescent tent
  • Explain and educate patrons on different fluorescent materials

Information

Janet Longueira (Chairperson)

Qualities Desired: A Society member, alert, courteous, kind, helpful, smiling, happy, pleasant

  • Arrange Society informational handout
  • Keep extra supplies in box under table including pens, stapler, scissors, etc.
  • Take any membership applications; keep applications with money separate and give to Membership Director
  • Sell pins and patches per display boards

Kids Corner

April Young/Nannette Mentz (Chairpersons)

Qualities Desired: Friendly, organized, not shy

  • Help children with the Treasure Hunt
  • Keep track of children with games and prizes
  • Be attentive to all the activities

Raffle

Debbie Bush (Chairperson)

Qualities Desired: friendly, alert, organized, good with money & counting

  • Tickets can be pre-sold to members; before the show.
  • Tickets can be sold to the general public during the show.
  • Maintain record of all who donated
  • Have security help you put prizes in display case
  • If money is the Grand Prize, take out at closing at night & put back in morning
  • Keep display case locked at all times

Security

Dean Sizemore (Chairperson)

Qualities Desired: alert, aware of surrounding at all times

  • Notify vendors who you are so they can call on you if needed
  • Watch what is going on with everyone present
  • Look for large open bags or purses, long coats, draped clothing over arms
  • Do not get involved in a confrontation
  • If you notice any theft, you can inform the vendor of the information
  • Remove any trash that has been left behind
  • Main objective is to prevent any problems
  • Continually walk the floor watching for any possible issues (SHOP LIFTERS)

Silent Auction

Renee Samuels (Chairperson)

Qualities Desired: friendly, organized, some familiarity with rocks, able to lift buckets of rocks

  • Organize layout of materials with bid sheet
  • Drawings are held and completed every half hour
  • At expiration of time, collect all items won with bid sheets; send person and items to cashier
  • As bids are won, replace blank spaces with new items

Wheel of Fortune

Deby Campbell (Chairperson)

Qualities Desired: friendly, smiling, cheering, organized, conscientious

  • Ensure Wheel is set up correctly
  • Place prizes on numbered spaces (rocks, jewelry, misc. items, etc.)
  • Sell tickets for Wheel spins
  • Replace prizes on blank numbers as prizes are won

Demonstration Booth Volunteers

Julie Hilsabek (Chairperson)

Qualities Desired: Patience, Personable, Enthusiastic

TIME: Saturday, September 16, 10:00am-5:00pm / Sunday, September 17, 10:00am - 4:00pm

  • Knowledge of the craft being demonstrated
  • Able to share that knowledge in an easy-to-understand manner
  • Enthusiasm for the craft being demonstrated

Display Case Exhibitors

Mary Hicks (Chairperson)

This is your opportunity to share your passion. 

Set up Friday, September 15, 10:00 AM

  • RENO CLUB MEMBERS can make arrangements to borrow a Club liner.
  • Please return entry before August 15, 2023.
  • Give complete information of each case entered.
  • Competition is open to any member of an AFMS Club. IF YOU COMPETE, YOU MUST
    FOLLOW THE CURRENT AFMS UNIFORM RULES, AS SUPPLEMENTED BY CFMS.
  • No change of entry status will be made after show starts.
  • Maximum lighting per case is 150 watts.
  • Exhibitors are not allowed to sell material from their cases during the show.

Truck Loading

TIME: Wednesday, September 13, 4:30pm - 6:00pm

Load all the materials at the Rock Building that will be needed at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center for Jackpot of Gems Show

Set Up At Convention Center

Stephanie Leonard/Virginia Keeley (Chairpersons)

TIME: September 15, 7:00am - 4:00pm

Jackpot of Gems Show, Reno/Sparks Convention Center, Virginia
Street across from the Atlantis Hotel and Casino.

Distribute from loading area materials to appropriate locations in the show area and set up
various booths as directed.

Take Down At Convention Center

Stephanie Leonard/Virginia Keeley (Chairpersons)

TIME: Sunday, September 17, 4:00pm - ??

  • Assist where necessary to take down booths, displays, etc.
  • Take direction from various chairpersons to move materials to loading area

Volunteer Fill In (Floater)

TIME: Saturday, September 16, 9:30am - 5:30pm / Sunday, September 17, 9:30am - 4:00pm

Qualities Desired: Familiar with all positions of the Jackpot of Gems Show

  • Fill in at any position in case of no-shows or illness
  • Check in with Chairperson on regular basis to see if needed

Potluck Dinner for Vendors and Volunteers

Set Up & Cleanup

TIME: Friday, September 15, 4:00pm - 9:00pm

  • Assist in setting up meeting room at Rock Building
  • Arrange tables and chairs (Tablecloths & Condiments on tables)
  • Arrange tables for food (extension cords, etc.)
  • Make sure serving plates, bowls, utensils are available for good preparers
  • Make sure plates, glasses, cups, utensils are available for guests
  • Help to take care of leftovers on Friday

TIME: Sunday, September 17, 3:00pm - ??

  • See Above - replenish all items

Volunteer to Bring Prepared Dishes
